When I first compiled this list, it was really for my own benefit so I could have a quick reference to all the major American muscle cars produced between the mid-60s and mid-70s. Basically, the most popular makes and years for that golden age of high displacement muscle machines. Now it’s time to pass it on to you good folks, so you have a quick reference to see the most popular muscle cars at a glance.

As the British contingent on the team, I was dealt with the task of looking over this fine Jensen interceptor.

The original model lasted only 3 years, upgraded to the interceptor II in 1969. 1,024 models were built with 923 in right-hand drive.
Although the original wasn’t classed as a ‘muscle car,’ it did have some of the traits. A Chrysler 383 c.i/6276 cc V8 engine, TorqueFlite automatic transmission, rearwheel drive and a definite muscular look. The car was short lived, but always had a certain mystique of power and performance and due to its rarity, the legend lasted for many years. This was also because it had such a cool name, ‘Jensen Interceptor’ just made it sound like the car could catch up and beat anybody.

This example is going up from auction at silverstoneauctions.com  with a registration in the EU.

As the auction listing itself says, ‘A striking blend of Anglo-Italian with a dash of Americana under the bonnet.’
Just like the A/C Cobra, when the US and the UK get together on a car build, good things can happen.

I have to admit that this car choice is more of a guilty pleasure than anything.
Having grown up in the UK, the Jensen Interceptor was one of those mythical cars you heard about, but was rarely seen.
If nothing else, it also had one of the coolest names ever given to a car.

They were built in Birmingham, England between 1966 and 1976 and used Chrysler V8 engines and TorqueFlite automatic transmissions. The car felt almost a bit like the AC Cobra in build – British body, American powertrain.

This example has been completely restored with upgrades from the motor to the new red paint.
when the ad says ‘new’ it seems that some parts are completely ‘new’ like all the lower body panels replaced, while it is implied that the motor has been restored.

Maybe one of the rarest Jensens out there, but also probably one of the most expensive. At least for any Jensen Interceptor fan, it’s at least worth taking note of this example.

Body:  The original Ford Tudor body has been chopped 4 inches with 4″mini-tubs. The grill shell is a SoCal unit with the insert.  Rootlieb 4 piece louvered hood with Hemi bubbles. Rear louvered belly pan.

Frame:  Custom built 32 frame by the Rod Factory, fully boxed, and bobbed in the rear.

Suspension:  Front suspension is a tube axle all chrome setup from Pete & Jakes and the rear is a P&J four link with polished coilover shocks.

Brakes:  Chrome Wilwood disks brakes, power assisted and drum rear brakes from a Ford 1/2 ton truck.

Engine:  1957 345 Hemi from a DeSoto Adventurer – Rare engine only 1950 made.  It has the original dual four manifold, with newer Carter/Weber 600 cfm carbs.  Chrome ribbed valve covers, oil pan and air cleaner.  All aluminum radiator by BeCool with electric fan.  Sanderson headers with aluminum coating running to Flowmaster muflflers with 24″ chrome exhaust tips.  HEI Distributor from Hot Heads.  Chrome alternator and a/c compressor.

Transmission:  700R4 Chevrolet automatic

Rearend:  Frankland quickchange 3:83 ratio

Interior:  Vintage Air conditioning.  Black leather heated buckets and a rear storage trunk.  Tilt steering column with turn signal and shift lever built in.  Plenty of legroom and seats recline, very comfortable.  Mooneyes gauges and a Jensen remote controlled CD/AM/FM  MP3 capable stereo with two 6×9 Pyramid speakers.

Tires and Wheels:  Wheels are American Racing Torq Thrust Chrome with Anniversary winged wheel center caps.  The tires are Mickey Thompson ET Street P295 65R 15 on the back and Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/R 26×8.00R15LT.
